An entire city, focused on technology

Odense is not only one of the most beautiful cities in Denmark, it also represents Northern Europe’s largest hub and high-tech ecosystem consisting of robot and automation companies, suppliers, education and research facilities, investment capital and public actors.

Odense is one of the Worldwide leaders within technology and robots, but we need more hands and clever minds. That's why you're here.

Raw numbers.

If you’re interested in robots, Odense is the place to be. The city and surrounding area is home to one of the world’s top ten clusters in robotics and automation, with more than 100 companies and around 2600 employees in this growing sector. This means Odense is at the very forefront of collaborative robots for the manufacturing industry, as well as robotic and automation technologies for the logistic and food sectors. Shaping your career here in Odense puts you at the very epicenter of a robotic revolution.

The Companies

The companies are generally partnership oriented. They have a strong tradition of public / private collaboration, and access to the latest knowledge and technology through collaboration with research institutes and innovation partners. Thanks to their success, the companies are always searching for bright minds to join their growing teams.

The Environment

Odense has an excellent environment fostering knowledge and research in robots and automation. The city is home to the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense Robotics, two national clusters (RoboCluster and Welfare Tech / Health Tech) and Danish Technological Institute’s Center for Robotic Technology. What is more, this environment also facilitates and guides small businesses and start-ups. More about startups?

The Robot Density

From an international perspective, Denmark is highly ranked for our ratio of operational industrial robots to employees. Denmark has the seventh highest robot density with a worldwide equivalent of 166 robots per 10,000 employees in the industry.

Just a little bit of history. Promise.

Cause, we are proud of Odense’s achievements in robotics. And we commend the strong foundation created 25 years ago when Odense Steel Shipyard – Lindø, began developing robots and robot applications in collaboration with the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). Following this, Mærsk McKinney Møller Institute established a high-tech center of excellence for intelligent autonomous systems as a part of SDU, and Danish Technological Institute’s Center for Robotics set up in Odense.

And a bit about today.

Yes, we're very much into robots. But Odense is a lot more. We're Denmark’s third largest city with +200,000 inhabitants and an ideal position in the centre of Denmark. Odense is the main city on the island Fyn, which is also known as “Denmark’s Garden” with a lot of small, quality oriented producers of fruit, vegetables and meat – and the highest concentration of micro breweries in Denmark. No reason saying that we like beer almost as much as robots and tech.

Robots are the future. Odense is first mover.

We believe that technology only will become a bigger and bigger part of how we live, and play a more and more important role as well.

More than gadgets.

Technology can do so much more than act as gadgets. If we look into how much impact technology have had on the entire healthcare sector during the past years, we can only dream about what will happen in the next 10 years. One thing is certain – we want to get on that train.

Global impact.

We know that technology can have a huge impact on a global level. There are so many things on this Earth which is just waiting to be solved by bright minds. We want to take that position.

Like the rest of Denmark

We’re a city of cyclists.

The Danes love their bicycles. And Odense is no exception. Take a look at the centre of the city or outside the University of Southern Denmark – or at the entrance to the Tinderbox Festival.

What you will see is bicycles parked all over the place. If you want to get around in the city the fastest and easiest way is by bicycle. You will find a lot of bike lanes and cyclist-only bridges. No wonder Odense was awarded Best City for Cyclists in 2015. Something that The Guardian also noticed when they wrote about the secrets of Odense and the bicycle culture in the city.
